The Eco-Music Big Band is a multigenerational and professional "virtuoso band" (NYC Jazz Record) that defies style, tradition, and expectations with genre-bending, avant- garde performances and recordings. NPR has said of the band: "This hard charging outfit, led by Marie Incontrera, has more on its mind than just swing music." The Eco-Music Big Band includes some of the nation’s most acclaimed cross-genre virtuoso musicians, including David Taylor, Felix Del Tredici, David Whitwell, Nolan Tsang, and Michael Feinberg.

A collective of virtuoso musicians with projects that vary in size, the Eco-Music Big Band is a forerunner in under-represented and cross- genre forms of jazz opera (such as the award-winning MR MYSTERY: The Return of Sun Ra to Save Planet Earth and Angela’s Ring), reimaginings of classical and avant-garde works (such as Igor Stravinsky ’s L’Histoire du Soldat, Franz Schubert’s Der Doppelganger, Frederic Rzewski’s Coming Together), as well as music for the express purpose of political action, (including music by activist-composers Fred Ho, Cal Massey, Marie Incontrera), for which the band has been called “agitators” (Chamber Music America). The Eco-Music Big Band has performed on respected stages throughout the New York area such as the Blue Note Jazz Club, National Sawdust, Red Rooster's Ginny's Supper Club, National Black Theater, Joe's Pub at the Public Theater, BAMcafe Theater, and Roulette, among others, and has been featured on the American Composers Orchestra's SONiC Festival for its dedication to commissioning and premiering works by up-and-coming composers under 40 years of age. In 2017, the Eco-Music Big Band will perform its debut performance at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall. The Eco-Music Big Band collaborates regularly with a diverse group of today's top artists including actor John Palladino (Orange Is The New Black, The Experimenter), Latin-jazz trombonist Papo Vazquez.

The Eco-Music Big Band's critically acclaimed recordings are represented by the all- digital micro-label Radical Jazz Records. Debut album COLORS OF RESISTANCE has received international attention. The Eco-Music Big Band’s second album, REBEL SPIRITS, is currently a finalist for Best of 2016 in the NYC Jazz Record. COLORS OF RESISTANCE has been featured on WBGO and WNYC. The Eco-Music Big Band's notable political actions include an opera for climate change, and a tour with calls to action that led to Black Panther Russell "Maroon" Shoatz's release from solitary confinement into general population after 23 consecutive years.
